BrisStyle Indie Twilight Market

Yesterday I visited the BrisStyle Indie Market at St George Square in the Brisbane CBD together with my friend Yasmin. The square looks lovely at night, with the church dwarfed by the tall office blocks:

We really enjoyed the market. I was thrilled to discover Bec from Spun Mud there – I bought a pair of her earrings years ago at the Eumundi Markets and lost one of them. They were my favourite earrings so I was very happy to be able to buy a new pair. I love ceramic jewellery!

I have very recently joined BrisStyle Inc. and hope to be at their Indie Designers Market in Hamilton on 8th December as a seller!

Take care,

Linda

Burlap apron

It was a busy week here, with hubby in New Zealand, so I didn’t get to do too much creative stuff. I did manage to make this burlap apron and am very happy with how it turned out. My eldest son (9) made the photo – I think he did a good job!

I’m now working on some more burlap Christmas items… Hope to show them here soon!

Take care,

Linda

Newsletter

Today I spent most of my time writing the very first Blue Jacaranda Newsletter and setting up a mailing list. I plan to send it out once a month so as not to clog up inboxes. If you subscribe you will automatically go in the draw to win a beautiful Blue Jacaranda prize each month. This month the prize is a set of three Burlap Christmas Cards (see photo) with a text of your choice (in a language of your choice)!

In the newsletter I will tell you about what’s going on at Blue Jacaranda – including new items in the shop, where I hang out, and other things I think you might like to see.To read the first newsletter click here. You can subscribe on that page as well, or go to the Newsletter tab at the top of this page.

Take care,

Linda

It’s jacaranda time

On the About page of this website you can read how I fell in love with the jacarandas in 2007, our first year in Brisbane. These gorgeous trees only flower for a short time every year; from mid-September until the end of October. Which means, of course, that they are in flower now!

So today I got on my bike to ride around our neighbourhood and took photos of the most beautiful jacaranda trees. And when I had to pick up my son from gymnastics I made a detour to snap even more jacarandas :-). Here are a few pics for you to enjoy!

Handmade presents for boys

I love buying handmade presents for my loved ones – which isn’t always easy if you have sons that are not babies or toddlers anymore. My eldest son got an Nintendo 3DS for his birthday in February, and we soon discovered that it would be useful to have a case for it. Ha! Handmade opportunity! On Etsy I found Kickass Cases, a shop that sells awesome DS, PSP and Kindle cases. Seller Ki and his girlfriend live in Christchurch, New Zealand, and started their shop after losing their jobs following the devastating earthquake in February 2011. They did find new jobs eventually but the shop had become so popular that they continued to run it.

My son loves his case and it is sturdy and well made; so when my youngest son got a DS on his birthday last month, I of course bought another Kickass  Case!  (he loves Luigi)

His brother (yes, I have three sons) will get one on his birthday, three weeks from now! Better make sure he doesn’t see this blog before then… 😉

Take care,

Linda
