Today I received a large envelope from the UK… with the January issue of Making, one of my favourite craft magazines. And in this issue is my article on how to make a burlap pencil roll from a coffee sack! Yay! (I’ve had quite a few articles published in magazines, but it’s still a big thrill!)
I sent a pencil roll to the UK to be photographed. Doesn’t it look gorgeous!
There are some other great projects in this issue, so do check it out if you see it! I really like this magazine – it’s fresh and original, full of attractive projects. I’m proud to be part of it. 🙂
This week a customer asked if I could make a Burlap Pencil Roll for her that could hold 20 pencils instead of 12. The largest one I had made so far was for 16 pencils, but four more wasn’t a problem!
The roll measures 25 x 50 cm (10″x 20″). Rolled up it is pretty big…
If you would like to order a roll that can hold a different number of pencils (or thicker pencils, or pockets for a sharpener and a rubber, or would like to see it threaded in different colours), please convo me on Etsy or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. I love doing custom orders and will be happy to work with you!
In March 2010 I was surfing the internet and discovered the calligram: a poem, phrase, or word in which the typeface, calligraphy or handwriting is arranged in a way that creates a visual image (Wikipedia). I thought I’d have a go at making one myself and hey presto, my first calligram was there (the gecko, you can find it here). After that first one I made lots more and one of my favourites is this bicycle calligram, made using the word bicycle in more than 20 languages!
The Bicycle Calligram print is available in my Etsy shop stretched in a hoop, made into an art card and as a PDF file to print at home. The Bicycle print stretched on canvas will be added again soon.
Earlier this week I sent out the January issue of the Blue Jacaranda Newsletter (click here to read it).
Every month one subscriber wins a BJ prize and you guessed it; this month’s prize is the Green Bicycle Word Art Card!
To subscribe use the form on the sidebar to the right or click on the newsletter tab at the top of the page. I send out only one newsletter per month and every month you go in the draw to win the prize!
Have a great weekend,
I don’t just sell on Etsy; I also love buying things and I thought I’d show you my latest purchases. I adore this little coin purse from Life Covers, made from gorgeous Harris tweed.
I have an earring addiction and couldn’t resist these brass bangles from Nature Look. Isabella is my teammate in the Four by Four treasury team and she makes stunning jewellery!
I bought this stylish USB stick holder as an anniversary present for my darling hubby – the perfect present for the man who has everything! And I got this one for myself, to keep my lip balm close at hand (on my keyring). Both are from Brisbane-based edward and lilly, one of my favourite shops on Etsy:
