Dutch Houses in Canada

A while ago a lovely customer in Canada asked if I could print the Dutch Houses for her in a larger size than a fat quarter, as she wanted to frame it and hang it on the wall. Of course I was happy to do that, and last week she sent me this photo. Doesn’t it look great?

Dutch Baby Quilt

This colourful baby quilt was inspired by the windmills in the Netherlands, my home country. I used the colours of the Dutch flag; red, white and blue; and one orange square as a reference to the Dutch Royal House of Orange.

The patterned fabrics are cut from authentic Dutch ‘farmers handkerchiefs’ (boerenzakdoeken), sent to me by my mother-in-law and my best friend in Holland (they are also available here).

The quilt was made as a project for the Australian magazine Creative Expressions, and I’m very proud that it made the cover!

The pattern is now available in my Craftsy pattern shop here.

Black and White Orange Peel Pillows

Is it really February? Where did January go?? Oh, wait – I vaguely remember school holidays, work deadlines, very hot days and back-to-school stress. Anyway, we’ve sort of settled back into the normal routines, and I finally managed to add some new items to the shop.

These pillow covers feature a traditional appliqué quilt block called Orange Peel. made with graphic black and white fabrics, they have a distinctly modern feel.

The covers measure 18 inch / 46 cm square. The set of two can be found in my Etsy shop here. I’m planning to add more new items this month!

Happy holidays!

It’s the summer holidays here in Australia, and we are about to go the beach for two weeks, so I would like to wish you all happy holidays and a very good 2014!

My Etsy shop will stay open but all orders will be shipped on January 5th, 2014. To make up for the waiting time, use coupon code HAPPY2014 for a 15% discount!

After a busy period at work I finally found time to add some new items to the shop. They all happened to be blue, and that made me realise there are quite a few items in my shop that are blue. Not surprisingly, for I love blue! Here is a selection.

Etsy purchases

I thought it was high time to show you some of my recent Etsy purchases. I adore these turquoise textile earrings made by Hagar from Israel. In her shop Gilgulim  she sells colourful and original fiber jewellery. Check it out!

I have quite a collection of earrings and decided I needed this lovely flower dish from Swedish shop Annabell Ceramic to keep them in!

Although I do not often wear brooches, I couldn’t resist this Quilt Block Brooch from Pannikin, an Australian shop. They are having a closing down sale now, so be quick if you want to snap up some cuteness!

And finally, I bought this adorable sock kangaroo for our new little niece in the Netherlands. It was made by Marlene from Lost Socks Home, another Australian shop, full of gorgeous sock animals.

Have you bought any handmade items lately?
