I’m working on a custom order: Flamingo Calligram Cards, screen printed in purple on orange handdyed fabric, finished with a turquoise satin stitch. I like them! (in my Etsy shop the Flamingo is available in black on white and black on pink).

World Map Print

20130215 011-001

A while ago I thought that it would be fun to be able to print a map of the world onto fabric. I drew one and had it made into a thermofax screen, which arrived last week, together with my new calligram designs. I made a red-on-white test print that looked great (or so I thought), so I stretched it in a hoop.

Then I did another screenprinting session and had fun experimenting with different colours ink…

Here’s one of the resulting prints – I made it into a large fabric card:

How about printing on t-shirts?

I’ve got the whole world on my shirt!

I love this print! (and so did my youngest son – he wants it printed on a green shirt)

The World Map Print is also available now as a fabric design in six different colour combinations at Spoonflower

As always; if you would like to have one of my designs printed in a different colourway (or on a t-shirt in a different size), please send me an email (info at lindarobertus.com). I am happy to do custom orders!

Take care,
Linda

New Word Art Prints

This was a very productive week! On Thursday I received the thermofax screens I had ordered, with my new calligram designs. I did a quick screen printing session while the kids played on their new Wii (dinner was a bit late that day…) and the next day stretched the prints in hoops and on canva,s and made them into art cards.

The mouse was a request from a friend, the other animals have been on my to-do list for a long time. Especially this fascinating Australian animal, the platypus:

I love how the seahorse looks:

All these prints are now available in my Etsy shop. I have started to draw some more calligrams. Which animal would you like to me to do next?

Take care,
Linda

St Basil’s Cathedral Screen Print

20120108 173

On Saturday I sent out the Blue Jacaranda December Newsletter – you can read it here. The BJ Newsletter appears once a month, keeps you up to date with what’s going on here at BJ HQ and, last but not least, every subscriber automatically goes in the draw to win a beautiful BJ prize each month. The December prize is one of my favourite items; the St Basil’s Cathdral Art Card.

Moscow is very high on my list of places I would like to visit, and the first thing I would go and see is St Basil’s Cathedral. Such a gorgeous building! I made a pen drawing of the cathedral in 2011 and had it made into a thermofax screen. I used it to make a small ‘Russia’quilt as part of my journal quilt series earlier this year:

In my Etsy shop I sell art cards and stretched prints with this image. It is also available printed on fabric at Spoonflower.

What’s on top of your list of places you would love to visit?

Take care,
Linda

Getting ready for Inspired

This Sunday, the 25th of November, Blue Jacaranda will be at Inspired, a Shopping and Fundraising Event created by Brisbane artist Kylie Farrelly. This week I have been busy making stock, such as this Chalk Cloth Bunting. The backside is made from laminated fabric, so it can be used indoors and outdoors.

This Oilcloth Bunting is also very suitable for garden parties:

Buntings look so good like this:

Yesterday I did a big screen printing session.

Today I made the prints into Art Cards, ACEO and stretched them in hoops:

Inspired is at 30 Florence Street, Teneriffe (Brisbane) from 3 until 6pm.

Take care,
Linda

Welcome!

Welcome to the new Blue Jacaranda blog!

I started Blue Jacaranda in July 2010 – initially as a hobby, but after I lost my job, in June 2012, it has become a full-time enterprise. Share my ups and downs on the way to success here!

My Dutch Houses print, stretched in a hoop in the photo above, has been one of the most popular Blue Jacaranda designs from the start. It prompted my motto:

Blue Jacaranda – handmade in Australia, with a Dutch accent!

Take care,

Linda
